Following eight years of repair and restoration, the cottage was much admired by its owners and everyone in the neighborhood.
This watercolor of the cottage was formally presented to the current owner and her family at the 2003 Labor Day picnic. Click here to read their note of thanks.

Following a fire in November 2002, the cottage and contents were reduced to ash and cinders. Only the steps and brick chimney remained.
Fire prevention is viewed by cottage owners as a combination of common sense and preparedness. Here are the West Michigan Park Association fire prevention guidelines.
1. Beach fires are prohibited by Ottawa County ordinance. (Open fires require a burning permit from Park Township.)
2. Setting off fireworks from cottages and surrounding properties is prohibited.
3. When cooking food on outside grills, use extreme caution and dispose of coals in fireproof containers.
4. Equip cottage with a rope ladder.
5. Equip cottage with a minimum of one fire extinguisher for each floor plus one in the kitchen.
